I Cracked

By sushipan in sushipanda

After nearly a month of containing myself and avoiding going out during the week, I finally caved in tonight. My buddy Will was visiting from the States on some business, and serendipitously called me out to have a drink with his uncle in Pudong. Knowing this would be breaking my pact to be a good work-week lad, I ventured out to the gym for a quick work-out prior to our rendezvous in order to counter-balance the small dose of harm I was expected to do to my body.

Around midnight, however, I found myself unwilling to go home, and went out to Class with Will to meet up with an old friend 王卓,whom I hadn’t seen in a while. Next thing I knew, I was polishing off a bottle of scotch with her and Will and some random dude who knew his way around dice games. Face to face with a combination of temptations, I succumbed to all of them. Now here I am at home, 2:44 am with a wake-up call set for three hours from now, and all I can think is: Damn, that sure felt good.

From last December to this September, I had rigorously trained myself to function on three hours of sleep + hangover. Having steered away from that in October and strenously working to maintain a semblance of normality to my routine, my conclusion is that a healthy lifestyle is an arduously boring one. Still, with friends like Cheryl worrying about my health from afar, I owe it to them to start controlling myself and acting like an adult. I target around the year 2019 for this to start taking effect.
